Alon Nechushtan "Venture Bound" Quartet



Since moving to New York in 2003, pianist and composer Alon Nechushtan has collaborated with jazz greats including William Parker, Don Byron, Donny McCaslin, Bob Moses, Ben Allison, John Ellis, Chris Cheek, Chris Speed, Mark Helias, Mark Dresser, Andrew Cyrile, Kenny Wollesen, Ben Goldberg, Daniel Carter, Ned Rothenberg, Robert Dick, Steve Swell, Dan Weiss, Francois Moutin, Bob Gulotti, John Lockwood, and Ken Filiano.

Alon has released seven CDs under his name on various international labels such as Tzadik, Buckyball (USA), Creative Sources (Portugal), Enja, Between the Lines, Challenge (Germany), MGN, Future Classics (Netherland), and Ayler (Sweden), and toured as a leader in Canada, Brazil, Israel, Europe, the UK, and the USA.

His newest project VENTURE BOUND on Germany’s Enja label features Donny McCaslin, John Ellis, Adam Cruz, Chris Lightcap, Duane Eubanks, Roggerio Boccato, and Ibrahim Frigbane.

He has had a parallel career as a prolific composer of contemporary classical music, and music for dance and film, in the USA, his native Israel, Europe, Japan, South Africa, and Brazil.

He has appeared as at Carnegie Hall, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Leverkuzen Festival, the INTERLINK festival in Japan, the California Edge Festival 2005, and at the 1999 NAMM show in Nashville.

Bassist Jeff Denson is a recording artist for Enja Records with his trio Minsarah, and with the Lee Konitz New Quartet.

He has performed at such prestigious international festivals as the JVC Jazz Festival Paris, the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Enjoy Jazz Festival, and the Montreal Jazz Festival, and with such distinguished musicians such as Bob Moses, Charlie Byrd, Joe Lovano, Carl Allen, Kenny Werner, Geoffrey Keezer, Art Lande, Claudio Puntin, and Lee Konitz.

He has appeared at Chez Hanny with Minsarah, Adam Kolker, and the Jeff Denson/Joshua White Project.

Drummer Jeff Marrs grew up in a musical family in Concord CA. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in jazz studies from New England Conservatory, where he studied with Fred Budda of the Boston Pops, Gary Chaffee, George Russell, Bob Brookmeyer, Benny Golson, Danilo Perez, and John McNeil.

Since returning to the Bay Area, Jeff has played at nearly every major festival, and has become one of the first call drummers in the region. Artists he's performed/recorded with include: Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joshua Redman, Mads Tolling, Mel Martin, Bobby Watson, Wil Blades, Mitch Marcus, Mike Zilber, Fil Lorenz, Barry Finnerty, Don Friedman, Ambrose Akinmusire, Josh Nelson, Rodger Kellaway, Jackie Ryan, Steffon Harris, Ledisi, and the San Francisco Symphony.

He has appeared at Chez Hanny with Faye Carol and Marcus Shelby, and Dayna Stephens.
