Multi-reedist (tenor saxophone, oboe and English
horn) and composer Matt Renzi has been performing
professionally for the past 20 years at international jazz festivals
and music venues worldwide.
He holds a Bachelor’s in Music (Performance) from the Berklee
College of Music and Master’s in Arts (Classical Composition)
from San Francisco State University. Some of his teachers include Joe
Henderson and South Indian Vocalist R.A. Ramamani.
Matt can be heard on a variety of recordings including the award
winning “Lines and Ballads” (Fresh Sound Records)
as well as his latest release entitled “Lunch
Special” (Three P’s Records).
Matt has performed and recorded with Marc Johnson, Michael Formanek,
Eddie Marshall, Herbie Lewis, Ben Monder, Eberhard Weber, Bob Moses,
Ralph Alessi, Bobo Stenson, and
the Berlin Philharmanic Quintet.
He appeared previously at Chez Hanny with Eddie Marshall, David
Ambrosio/Russ Meissner, Shoebox Orchestra, Dahveed Behroozi, MCH
Quartet, Gatekeeper, Alon Nechushtan, Matt
Renzi Trio, Matt Renzi Cello Quartet, and Matt Renzi "Three Yard
Mile".
Pianist and composer Dahveed Behroozi (b. 1981) is
a NYC based musician who currently resides in the San Francisco Bay
Area. His focus is in jazz, classical, and new music. Dahveed’s playing
has been described as, "highly expressive, lyrical and colorful with a
phenomenal facility" by many artists and various publications.
In addition to performing and recording as a leader and soloist,
Dahveed has performed and recorded with Thomas Morgan, Tyshawn Sorey,
Billy Mintz, and Dayna Stephens.
Originally from San Jose, California, Dahveed received his BA degree in
Jazz Piano from The Manhattan School of Music in 2002 where he studied
under Fred Hersch. He then received his Master’s degree from The
Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College where he studied classical
and contemporary piano literature under Ursula Oppens.
Dahveed is also an active educator and serves on the faculty of Gavilan
College, San Jose State University, and Santa Clara University.
Dahveed was heard here previously with Matt Renzi, Shay Salhov, Scott
Barnhill, Gatekeeper, Raffi Garabedian, and the
Dahveed Behroozi Quartet.
Bass player Josh Thurston-Milgrom lived for twelve
years in Chicago and three in Berlin before returning to his native Bay
Area, performing along the way with luminaries such as Von Freeman,
Kurt Rosenwinkel, Taylor Eigsti, and Yosvany Terry.
He's a 17-year veteran of the Stanford Jazz Workshop faculty, and
teaches at the Harker School in San Jose.
He performed previously at Chez Hanny with Jacknife, Alon
Nechushtan, Jarrett Cherner, and Charles McNeal.
Tim Bulkley is a drummer and artist located in the Northern
California area.
Tim is known for a musical, intuitive approach to drumming. He grew up
taking piano lessons, taking art classes, singing in choirs, and
studying the drums. His professional career as a musician started early
and has stayed a constant for over 25 years. Tim spent the years of
2006 - 2017 living and working
in Brooklyn NY & 2000 - 2006 living and working in San Francisco
CA.
He has played and recorded with artists including Dayna Stephens,
Michelle Amador, Goh Nakamura, Evan Francis, Anton Schwartz, The
Invisible Cities, John Lester, Postmodern Jukebox, Adam Platt, Stacey
Kent, Boz Scaggs, Peter Bernstein, Telepathy, Wil Blades, Dandelion
Dance Company, and BodyVox Dance.
He appeared previously at Chez Hanny with Julian Pollack, MCH
Quartet, Jeff Buenz, Dan Blake, Gatekeeper, and Loren Stillman.
