Jacam Manricks Quartet


Sri Lankan/Portuguese Australian born saxophonist/composer Jacam Manricks was raised in a musical family. His parents played in the state symphony in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia, and his grandfather was a famous jazz clarinetist and saxophonist in Sri Lanka.

Jacam began studying piano at age 5 and the alto saxophone at 9. His formal musical training continued in New York in 2001, culminating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2007.

As a composer, soloist and ensemble leader, Jacam has recorded four albums to date. 

"Labyrinth" consists of Jacam’s compositions for jazz quintet and chamber orchestra and features Ben Monder – guitars, Thomas Morgan – bass, Tyshawn Sorey – drums, and Jacob Sacks – piano.

"Trigonometry" features Jacam’s compositions for jazz quartet and septet, performed by Gary Versace – piano, Joe Martin – bass, Obed Calvaire – drums, Scott Wendholt – trumpet, and Alan Ferber – trombone.

"Cloud Nine" features Jacam’s original compositions and arrangements performed by Adam Rogers– guitar, Matt Wilson – drums, and Sam Yahel-Organ.

He has performed with Ray Charles, the Vanguard Orchestra, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Dave Liebman, Bob Mintzer, James Morrison, Mike Nock, Ben Monder, Gary Versace, Tyshawn Sorey, and the Queensland Symphony.

He has taught at the Manhattan School of Music, William Paterson University, University of Toronto, the New School, and is currently at UC Davis.

Pianist Ian McArdle, from Oakland, California, is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

He studied with Dan Wall, Susan Muscarella, Billy Hart, and Jamey Haddad.

Ian received the Oberlin Conservatory of Music Dean’s Scholarship and awards for Outstanding Musicianship from the Campana Jazz Festival, CSU East Bay Jazz Festival and the Sacramento State University Winter Jazz Festival.

He has performed at Yoshi’s, Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, as well as jazz venues in Italy and France. In 2013 Ian toured China with the Chase Jackson Quintet.


Giulio Xavier Cetto is a 26 year old bassist out of Oakland California. Playing both up right bass and electric, Giulio has played with many different musicians in a huge array of styles. He has toured internationally multiple times and now attends college at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkley.

His musical associates include Dan Zinn, Joe Mazzaferro, Chase Jackson, and Malachi Whitson.

Mike Quigg began playing the drums at age 9 and hasn't looked back since. He grew up in Tracy, CA where he honed his craft while studying with a private instructor for 7 years and within that time, grew to be a well known and highly sought after drummer in his home town along with the surrounding bay area at a young age.

While attending San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA he co-ran a weekly Jam Session at The Take 5 Club and had the opportunity to play with renowned artists such as Eric Marienthal, Gilbert Castellanos, and Claudia Villela.

He went on to get his Bachelors in Music from the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA.
