Calvin Keys Trio

Guitarist Calvin Keys
has had an extraordinary almost fifty year career that included long
periods with jazz
legends Ahmad Jamal, Earl “Fatha” Hines, and Ray
Charles.
He has worked extensively with giants of the Hammond organ like Jimmy
Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Trudy Pitts, Dr. Lonnie Smith,
Charles Earland, Doug Carn, and Papa De Francesco.
Other jazz masters he has performed with include Blue Mitchell, Donald
Byrd, Lou
Donaldson, Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Carmen McCrea, Freddie
Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Stanley Turrentine, George Coleman, Red Holloway,
Oscar Brown Jr, Jimmy Witherspoon and Jean Carn.
While performing is always a priority for Calvin Keys, he has found
time to record 14 CD’s as a leader.

Bassist Joe McKinley has
accompanied a wide range of musicians, from Earl “Fatha” Hines to Sun
Ra, from Chuck Berry to Joe Henderson’s Big Band, not to mention John
Handy, Eddie
Henderson, Marlena Shaw, Oscar Brown Jr., Jimmy Witherspoon, and the
list goes on.
Joe has performed in many genres. In addition to small and large jazz
ensembles, Joe has performed in stage production pit bands, second line
New Orleans-style bands, and full orchestras, not to mention a circus
or two.
Drummer Paul Tillman Smith
has performed with Lightnin’ Hopkins,
Sonny Simmons, Albert Ayler, Jackie MacLean, Archie Shepp, Kenny
Dorham, Pharaoh Sanders, Michael White, Ed Kelly, Bobby Hutcherson,
John Handy, Alice Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Jimmy McCracklin, Etta
James, Jon Hendricks, Marlena Shaw, Abbey
Lincoln, Dewey Redman, Harold Land, Lorez Alexandria, Carlos Santana,
The Brecker Brothers, Eddie Henderson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Julian
Priester, Woody Shaw, and Pete Escovedo.
He has also been active as a song writer, composer for theater, jazz
educator, and co-founder of the Berkeley Juneteenth Festival.
