Peter Barshay Trio




Peter Barshay is a veteran bassist who has established a strong reputation over the years from his sideman work on both the New York City and Bay Area jazz scenes. Peter has performed with such jazz luminaries as Kenny Barron, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Kenny Werner, Shirley Horn, Woody Shaw, Pharoah Sanders, Blue Mitchell, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Johnny Griffin, Bobby McFerrin, Joey Baron, Jimmy Rowles, Tommy Flanagan, the Mingus Big Band, Victor Lewis, Lou Donaldson, Lew Tabackin, Joe Chambers, Armen Donelian, Jim McNeely, Sonny Fortune, Mike Stern, Art Lande, and Paul McCandless.

Peter has played Chez Hanny previously with Harvey Wainapel, Steve Lockwood, Michael O'Neill, Dave Scott, Peggy Stern, Edward Simon, Joshua Breakstone, Armen Donelian, Debbie Poryes, Shoebox Orchestra, and Larry Schneider.




Drummer Akira Tana has worked with Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Zoot Sims, Hubert Laws, Milt Jackson, Jim Hall, Art Farmer, Tete Montoliu, Paul Winter, Paquito D'Rivera, James Moody, J.J. Johnson, Lena Horne, the Heath Brothers, and Manhattan Transfer. He has appeared on over 200 recordings.

Tana co-led a quintet with bassist Rufus Reid, called TanaReid, which released five CDs. A further five CDs followed with his own bands, Otonowa, and The Secret Agent Men Band.

Akira appeared here previously with Larry Vuckovich, Jerome Sabbagh, Jon Mayer, Knucklebean, Rob Schneiderman, Tim Armacost/David Berkman, John Klopotowski, Mark Lewis, Akira Tana and Friends from Osaka, and Akira Tana Organ Trio.

Bay Area first call pianist Grant Levin has performed with Terence Blanchard, Bob Berg, Richard Stoltzman, Madeline Eastman, Bobby Shew, Ingrid Jensen, Ravi Coltrane, Robin Eubanks, Pete Yellin, Jerry Dodgion, Dayna Stephens, Noel Jewkes, John Santos, Howard Wiley, Ray Obiedo, Dean Reilly, Melecio Magdaluyo, Marcus Shelby, and Little Anthony and the Imperials.

Venues include SFJAZZ Center, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yoshi’s Oakland, The Legion of Honor Museum, Fillmore Street Jazz Festival, Cafe Stritch, and Mildred Owen Concert Hall in Pacifica.

He appeared previously at Chez Hanny with Chris Amberger, Homespun Trio, Noel Jewkes/Steve Heckman, and the Grant Levin Quartet.
