Saxophonist and composer Aaron Bennett earned a BA in music at Cal State Long Beach with an emphasis on classical saxophone performance. He then earned an MFA at California Institute of the Arts in Jazz performance, where he studied with Wadada Leo Smith, Larry Koonse, Joe Labarbera, and Charlie Haden. In addition to his jazz training, he has also explored a diverse range of musical traditions from Bali, Java, Ghana, Japan, and India.

Since then, he has performed with Wadada Leo Smith, Mykal Rose, Peter Kowald, John Butcher, Adam Lane, Aphrodesia, Lagos-Roots, The Rova Saxophone Quartet, William Hooker, Lisa Mezzacappa and Vijay Anderson

He has performed at clubs and festivals across the U.S. and abroad, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Novara Jazz Festival in Italy.

He played here previously with the Vijay Anderson Quartet, and the Aaron Bennett Trio.

Bassist Dan Seamans grew up in Washington, DC.

While completing a music degree at UC Santa Cruz he studied string bass with Larry Epstein, Mel Graves, and Michael Willens, and collaborated with pianist Graham Connah.

Moving to Oakland, he played with Bill Bell, Donald Bailey, Mark Levine, and John Schott, and co-founded the New Klezmer Trio, with Ben Goldberg and Kenny Wollesen, a group which went on to do several European tours, and record three CDs on John Zorn's Tzadik label.

During a period in Southern Vermont, he was mentored by master guitarist Attila Zoller.

He has played with the Lost Trio since 1994, and appears on 6 of their cds.

Dan appeared here previously with the Lost Trio, the Lost Trio with Scott Foster, the Vijay Anderson Quartet, and the Aaron Bennett Trio.




Drummer Smith Dobson has been performing in the Bay Area for more than 25 years, at venues such as the San Jose and San Francisco Jazz Festivals, Yerba Buena Theater, The Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Yoshi's, Kimball's, Pearl's, Bacar, Bruno's, The Make-Out Room, Great American Music Hall, Bottom Of The Hill, Amnesia, The Jazz School, The Stanford Jazz Workshop, and The Intersection of the Arts.

Dobson has had the honor of working with great jazz artists, locally and internationally, such as Bobby Hutcherson, Red Rodney, John Handy, Sheila Jordan, Red Holloway, Pete and Conte Condoli, Phillip Harper, Hal Stein, Noel Jewkes, Ben Goldberg, Graham Connah, Darren Johnston, Charlie Shoemake, Will Bernard, Kenny Brooks, William Winant, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and Anthony Davis.

He also performs on vibraphone and saxophone.

He appeared here previously with the Evan Francis / Darren Johnston Quartet, the Matt Renzi Cello Quartet, the Keith Saunders Trio, and the Aaron Bennett Trio.
