Mike Greensill Trio


Mike Greensill, piano.

After graduating from Leeds College of Music in England, Mike toured Europe and the Far East, finally settling into his adopted home, San Francisco in 1977. Well known in his role as musical director to Wesla Whitfield with whom he has recorded fifteen albums, Mike is also resident piano player on Sedge Thomson’s weekly radio show to the world, "West Coast Live."

He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the White House, and as an arranger has had the opportunity to write for big bands and symphony orchestras including the Boston Pops and the San Francisco Symphony.

Ruth Davies, bass.

Ruth has performed with such jazz and blues greats as Charles Brown, Clark Terry, John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, Jay McShann, Van Morrison, Maria Muldaur, Junior Mance, Barbara Morrison, Etta Jones, Terry Gibbs, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Little Jimmy Scott. Her discography (including several Platinum and Grammy-winning CDs) covers various jazz and blues styles as well as movie soundtracks. She has recorded with Charles Brown, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, Van Morrison, Clark Terry, Vassar Clements, Toots Thielemans, Ernie Watts, Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Jackie Ryan, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, among others.

She toured the world for ten years with the late Charles Brown, performing at major jazz festivals and concerts and on radio and television broadcasts worldwide. Ruth continues to spend considerable time abroad. She records and tours internationally with Maria Muldaur, Denise Jannah and Amina Figarova. She is also a regular duo partner with Mike Greensill.

Jason Lewis, drums.

Jason graduated from the classical percussion program at San Jose State University, under the direction of Tony Cirone of the San Francisco Symphony, with a B.A. in music. Mr. Lewis has taught privately in the bay area, coached at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, and has performed clinics at schools throughout the San Jose area.

He has played with a variety of talented musicians including; Joshua Breakstone, John Stowell, Gary Burton, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Norma Winstone, Larry Coryell, Darol Anger, Regina Carter, Johnny Frigo, Ann Dyer, James Carter, Taylor Eigsti, John Handy, Anton Schwartz, Mark Levine, Peter Apfelbaum, Cornelius Bumpus, and Kurt Elling. Mr. Lewis has also performed with the San Jose Symphony and the San Jose Civic Light Opera.

Besides performing throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with many groups, often with bassist John Shifflett and pianist Paul Nagel, Mr. Lewis has toured and recorded with Michael Brook, Djivan Gasparyan, Ann Dyer, and Ashwin Batish. For much of the past several years he has been touring with Boz Scaggs, and appears on the latter's recording of standards, "But Beautiful".

Jason was heard here previously with the Dave Mac Nab Trio and the Dave Scott Quintet.
