Pianist Kenny Werner
was recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship Award for his seminal
work, "No Beginning No End", featuring Joe Lovano.
Kenny started his own trio in 1981 with Tom Rainey and Ratzo Harris. The group matured for fourteen years, wowing
audiences in America and Europe and recording four albums.
In the mid 1980’s, he became the pianist for the Mel Lewis
Orchestra.
He wrote and arranged for that group, and subsequently for the major bands in Europe
including the Cologne, Danish, and Stockholm Jazz Orchestras, the
Brussels Jazz Orchestra, The Umo Jazz Orchestra of Finland, and the
Metropole Orchestra of Holland.
Kenny continues to perform with Toots Thielemans, Joe Lovano, and Broadway legend Betty Buckley.
In 2000, Kenny formed a new trio with Ari Hoenig and Johannes
Weidenmueller. He also tours and records with such musicians as Chris Potter, Dave Douglas, Scott
Colley, Brian Blade, and Randy Brecker.
“Perfection, 360 degrees of soul
and science in one human being. My kind of musician.” -- Quincy Jones
